2.4GHz ISM Band RF Interference from USB 3.0

2.4GHz ISM Band RF Interference from USB 3.0

The good news is that the DocKtor hasn't heard of too many instances lately where RF devices (wireless mice and keyboards, headsets, etc.) fail to function consistently when coupled with workstations using USB3.0 devices i.e. Targus Universal Docking Stations. It appears that modifications in the universal docking stations and consideration of the issue from RF device manufacturers has lessoned the instances of the annoyance. The issues do seem most prevalent when dongles for such RF devices (Bluetooth, 802.11, etc.) are plugged into the docking station, especially USB 3.0 ports!

Intel published a white paper outlining why the issue can occur and some tips for alleviating it: USB3.0 RF Noise Impact on 2-4GHz

The DocKtor recommends moving RF dongles to the USB2.0 ports on the docks, ideally as far from the USB 3.0 ports as possible i.e. on the side of models ACP70 and ACP71. This appears to mitigate most of the issue, but not always all of it. Sometimes more drastic measures including cabling the dongle away from the docking station or using a different RF manufacture's device are necessary. Feel free to post any success stories you may have here and thanks for your support.
