Installation – Update The PC USB 3.0 Host Controller and Display Adapter Drivers
During the initial setup and installation of any Universal USB 3.0 Docking Station it's critical to update your laptop's (or Windows 8 Pro tablet's) USB 3.0 Host Controller AND Display Adapter Drivers BEFORE installing the DisplayLink dock drivers. This will make sure your system is working optimally with the dock. By not updating these drivers you will find that your docking station will function inconsistently. For example, down the road your monitors may not connect or your Ethernet connection may drop, etc. These are typical symptoms of having outdated drivers. In fact, many PCs "work" with out-of-date drivers but not everything may be work seamlessly. After all, how does anybody really know if their USB 3.0 port is functioning correctly and at the proper 4.8Gbps USB 3.0 speed? Now, we all know that Windows Update is supposed to keep your PC drivers up-to-date but this is rarely the case and while Microsoft continues to drive PC manufacturers toward maintaining driver updates, many manufacturers often prefer you to use their update utilities and support sites but again these are rarely up-to-date. Alas, for now you'll need to update these drivers manually and the Targus support team is available to walk you through it. The Windows 10 upgrade process updates drivers and Windows Update in Windows 10 will also keep them updated and compliant. This is something Microsoft is forcing with various vendors and should make the PC maintenance process more like that of say, OS X (Apple).
