ACA47 USB-C Multiplexer Adapter Application Note

Targus has released the ACA47GLZ USB-C Multiplexer Adapter, a Type-C tip of sorts, to use with the now retired ACP71, ACP77, DOCK171 and DOCK177 Universal Docking Stations and a USB Type-C Host for only $59.99 SRP.

The ACA47 multiplexes (combines) the USB Type- A Cable that usually goes into the host and the DC power from the DOCK171/177 into a single USB Type- C connection to the host.

Type-C Power Delivery

The blue power LED light up to show power is applied to the unit from the DOCK171/DOCK177. It auto-negotiates USB Type-C PD 2.0 modes 1-4, at 5VDC, 12VDC, and 20VDC. A 20VDC Power Delivery Contract (PDC) may require a dock or PSU with 20.5VDC output to the ACA47.

The ACA47 has been tested with many PC, MacBook, Android, Linux and Chromebook hosts.

It can be used for Type-C Power Delivery only with popular Targus Universal Power Adapters including the APA90, APA110, and APA31.

Type-C Host Universal Docking

The data portion of the ACA41 USB Type-C connector will work on any host's USB Type-C receptacle if that receptacle has USB 2.0, or better yet USB 3.2, either Gen 1 (aka USB 3.0) or Gen 2, the host has the Targus DisplayLink software installed, and the ACA47 is powered (blue LED on) by the Targus Docking Station.

The ACA47 can source power for a host even if the USB Type-A cable from the ACP71/77 dock is not connected.
