Users may notice the Billboard message shown below when using the DOCK190 with the ACC1104 on a W10 host PC. It is for information purposes only and can be ignored.

The message occurs even though the DOCK190 is enumerated on the USB 3.0 Host Controller.  It occurs for only a few seconds. It does not occur when docking via USB Type-C SuperSpeed. 

 

Billboard Device Explanation

The message originates from the DOCK190 TPS65982 USB 2.0 Billboard device, see below.

From Universal Serial Bus Device Class Definition for Billboard Devices Revision 1.21 2.2 Billboard Device Connection Process. 

1. The Billboard capability shall only be exposed after Alternate Mode negotiations are completed or tAMEtimeout (as defined in Table 5.2 of [USBTYPEC]) whichever is earlier. 

2. If the Port Pair successfully enters into Modal Operation (as defined by [USBPD]) then the Device Container is not required to expose the Billboard Device. It may still expose the Billboard Device if it wants to for informational purposes only.

Suppressing Via Host Settings

Many host BIOS contain the option to suppress such messages.  Alternatively, uncheck the "Notify me if there are issues connecting to USB devices" box in Windows 10 Settings\Devices\USB as shown below.

Suppressing Via Group Policy

To suppress the message using Group Policy Software deployment, add the following DWORD to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\USB]
  • "NotifyOnUsbErrors"=dword:00000000
